April Showers Bring Us Flowers

Hi All and welcome to my blog. This week's challenge was to use flowers on a card, layout, or other paper project. I decided to go back to my beginnings and do a layout for this project. With Easter and Mother's Day and any other day you want to celebrate someone special in mind I went about creating this layout. I love flowers and have been guilty in the past of putting them on every layout. When giving the challenge to create a project using flowers I couldn't find one I wanted to use. I settled on this mirror with several flowers and used the flower accents on the other pages to tie it all together. I also got into an embellishment frenzy and wanted to use a little bit of everything.

April 7 Daily Project

Welcome to my little blog world. My project today for Exploring Cricut is in celebration of National Autisim Awareness Month. I teach Special Education at a very small school in Kentucky and although I have not worked with any students that are autistic we do have several in our school and they are the sweetest kids. One of the symbols for Autism is a puzzle piece therefore, I decided to use this in my door decoration. Using Printing 101, I cut the puzzle pieces out in red, blue, and yellow which are three of the four colors used by the national Autism group (size was 5.47). The font that I used for this decoration was Songbird, and the size was 3.47. The letters were welded together using the gypsy.

When I was asked to decorate my door for Autism Awareness Month I was amazed at some of the famous names that popped up as being on the Autism Spectrum. That's where I got the idea for my door. Each puzzle piece has the picture of one famous person who is on the spectrum or who showed signs of being on the spectrum. Another activity that we are doing is having all of our students sign a smaller puzzle piece. These are also cut out using Printing 101, but they are cut at 2.48. I tried to fit the smaller pieces together like a puzzle, but we all agreed this was a little tedious to try to do all 300+ pieces. We were happy with the way it turned out.

New Hostess Clubs now forming

Many have asked about my Hostess Clubs. By joining a group, it is a great way to order products a little at a time and earn free hostess rewards. This is how my new club is going to work!
1. You will be assigned to a group. You will agree to buy $25 a month or more for 6 months.
2. Each month I will set up an online gathering for your group. You will have between the 1st and the 30th of each month to place your order. You will place your order ONLINE through that link.
3. I will assign each member a hostess month. During the month that is assigned to you, you will get all the hostess gifts from your groups order. For example it might look like this-Member 1 places a $25.00 orderMember 2 places a $60 order.Member 3 places a $25 order.Member 4 places a $30 orderMember 5 places a $35 orderMember 6 places a $25.00 order. You send the invite to four of your friends and they place orders of $150.00 all together. (this is an optional step) All together you have $350 in subtotal orders. You would receive $60 in free products and one item at half price. WOW! How cool is that.
4. If you miss placing your order, you will forfeit your hostess month and hostess gifts.
5. This is a simple and quick way to build up your stamping supplies and to earn free gifts while doing it. Think of it as a preferred customer program!

Challenge Project: Spring

This challenge was right up my alley. I love the colors that Diane gave us to work with this week. The challenge was to create a layout, card, or other paper craft using a spring theme and we were limited to using the colors pink, blue, green, purple, yellow, orange, and white. Here is my take on this weeks challenge. I hope you'll play along with us this week for this awesome challenge!

I decided to make an Easter card for a dear friend that lives down in Sterrite. (I'm sure I misspelled that. So glad I have it written down in my address book). I started with a white base and stamped the saying "happy easter to my peeps," across the base in different colors. I then cut out three eggs from the Art Philosophy cartridge at 2.5". I stamped different "flower" type designs from the Miracle stamp set. Then using the My Peeps set again I stamped three bunnies on the pink cardstock and cut them out. (these are so cute, they aren't actually bunnies, they are actually peeps - you know the marshmallow candy that's awesome as a kid and gross as an adult). Using the new stitching ruler from ctmh, I punch holes to do a zigzag stitch then cut out the top of the egg using these holes as guides. The peeps are adhered to the back of the eggs as well as the tops and then using pop dots I popped up the yellow and green egg to make it look more realistic.

Daily Project: I Dig You

Welcome to my blog for today's daily challenge. There's this really cute little fella that I just adore. He's one of my BFF's son. His birthday was this past week and he just turned 5. For those of you like me without children of their own, my friend's children get special attention from "Aunt Emily". Being a "special" aunt also has its privledges. This is the card that I made my favorite 5 year old for his birthday. He can't get enough of trucks, trains, and other heavy guy things. This was absolutely perfect for him!

For this card I used Beep Beep for the tractor. It was cut at 3"
Learning Curve for the title, cut at 1"
Disney Princesses Dreams Come True for the "rock", cut at 2.88"

The title was welded together using the Gypsy

Food Frenzy Challenge

Hi all! Today's challenge is to create a card, layout, or other paper craft using a food shape from one of the many wonderful cartridges. For this challenge there were so many possibilities, but my brother's birthday was this past Wednesday so I decided to take care of two things at one time and create a birthday card. I've always struggled creating cards for men since I love all things girly, but here is my take on the challenge.

The card base is 5.5x4.25 and is white
Pattern paper is from CTMH national scrapbooking kit.
Cardstock: colonial white, desert sand, smoothie
ribbon: chocolate and colonial white striped
Cartridges and cuts
Sweet Shop: the cake was cut at 3"
Art Philosophy: the tag was cut at 1.5"

Daily Project: Go Panthers

It's time again for my daily project. This one is one that's been done for a week. I teach at a very small school system, and we've got an awesome group of boys playing basketball this year. We were runners-up in our District Tournament this year and we were asked to decorate our door. Me, I didn't want to decorate my entire door becuase of the amount of time it would take, and I don't have a full class of students willing to do it like other people. Sorry my little dig, but it couldn't be helped. On to being positive and my project. (just a quick note, there is not a panther on any cartridge!!! what an outrage!!!)

For my project this week I started with a small poster. I know you are out there cheering that it isn't a card! I used the cartridge Makin' the Grade for the "Go" and "Beat". They were welded using the gypsy (except for the "at", they wouldn't weld for some reason). These were cut out in black (one of our school colors) at 4.52x2.43.
I then searched frantically for a panther (nada) and then I thought about using an ant, but I didn't have that either. So I did the next best thing and improvised. I used the tiger from the Animal Kingdom cartridge cut out at 4.79x6.65 using the gypsy. Also using the gypsy, it has a hide feature so I was able to go through and hide all of the cuts for the stripes (since panthers don't have stripes!) I added a pink nose and used a Honey marker for the eyes. To make him show up a little better I used a glitter pen on the detail cuts.

I then added a cardinal from the cartridge 50 States. (Our next game was against the Clark Co. Cardinals of course). This was a little easier since I could actually find this bird. I cut the bird out on 3.18x4.53 in black, then used a red for the layer. to get the legs and beak I cut another full image in Honey and cut what I needed. The large "A"s were very simple, cut from Alphalicious at 3.13x5.0.
The fun part was the cheerleaders. The cheerleaders were cut from Everyday paper dolls at 5". Each layer was also cut at the same size. Since it has gotten close to impossible to find a good match for skin color the cheerleaders were cut out using a white paper that comes from StampTV and then colored using copic markers. The colors that were used were:

Skin color: E00, E11, E13, R20

Hair: 1. E25, E31, E50; 2. E35, E31, YR20

Uniform: C7, C6, YR14, YR15, YR16

the same colors used for the uniforms were also used for the pon poms and shoes. I outlined her lips using E04 (natural lipstick) and just grabed a blue and blue/green to do their eyes. .
As a final touch I used bitty sparkles to set off their ponytails. Since the cheerleaders didn't really show up very well (because of the light colors) I decided to take a black marker and trace around the edges. This really helped them to pop off the page.
